November 16
Waiting for the train at the Adams/Wabash station, which overlooks the Art Institute.
November 17
The Christmas tree in Daley Plaza
November 18
I covered the "Pop-Up" Opera for ABC7 and got this pretty cool shot. That guy has an amazing voice.
November 19
Went to a wine tasting with Ally last night. It was a good excuse to wear my new dress.
November 20
I've been waiting months for this bag to come back in stock! It's called the History Girls Bag from Mod Cloth and I love, love, LOVE it! It's perfect for what I need with school, traveling and carrying all of the stuff I always need with me. My other bag was disintegrating (literally). I'm so happy to finally have a bag that fits my stuff and I don't have to dig for my keys for 5 minutes.
November 10
Wacker Drive at 5 p.m. leaving ABC. It gets dark so quickly, but the city is pretty at night.
November 11
Don't play indoor volleyball without kneepads. Ouch!
November 12
On the Brown Line going over the Chicago River.
November 13
Part of DePaul's Loop campus on State Street.
November 14
The front part of the Student Center at DePaul's Loop campus on Jackson Blvd. They already have the Christmas lights out around downtown.
November 15
Ally and me after we went on the architecture tour. She went to get hot chocolate for us and didn't even have to ask me if I wanted Bailey's in it. Needless to say we get along. The tour was great by the way, even if it was a little chilly.
(Excuse the formatting; Vox is being lame).
November 2
It's starting to look like fall here! I love all of the leaves everywhere.
November 3
ABC7 is right across the street from the famous Chicago Theatre marquee. It looks cool at night.
November 4 & 5
I took the same picture apparently leaving ABC7 last week, but the blue lights on State Street and in front of Macy's look nice, even if it's too early for Christmas.
November 6
Saw this quote in Rolling Stone, and I cut it out and posted right in the middle of my bulletin board.
November 7
Cammi, Ally and me at Gamekeepers watching the LSU-Alabama game. This is probably before that botched interception call.
November 8
Cammi and Taylor at Fat Cat in Uptown. I highly recommend the Uptown Lemonade and Pumpkin
November 9
The flags at Daley Plaza flew at half mast today, I think in observance of what happened at Ford Hood. So sad, but nice that the city is honoring the killed soldiers. One of them was from Illinois.
I randomly decided to start my photo blog again, and this time I'm determined to do every single day for an entire year.
Day 1: October 30
Me and Brad at his Halloween party.
Day 2: October 31
Me dressed as Jem. Happy Halloween!
Day 3: November 1
I got this card in the mail Saturday, how cute! And of course I told her yes.
A) I'm going to start using my vox account more so that I can share what's going on with my life with whoever, and keep my other account separate.
B) I have so much going on coming up for the Fall Quarter. I'll be taking two classes, my internship 3 days a week, helping with my grant and what I completely forgot about was working for the DePaulia (DePaul's student newspaper) twice a week as a copy editor. I'm going to be so busy, but I like to be. On the weekends I'll be able to catch up on work and life.
C) Speaking of life, it's 9 days to kickoff! I'm about to start reading The Maisel Report to get myself psyched for the season (like I need it, right?). I love learning about other teams' traditions and history, and I think knowing these things makes watching the game that much better.
D) I finished The Time Traveler's Wife last night, and I have to say I was a little disappointed.
A lot of people recommended reading it, and I enjoyed the story line, but for a professor teaching a creative writing program at a university, I didn't think the writing was all that good. It wasn't bad, but I was expecting better. It didn't blow me away or linger with me the way reading Marquez did when I read Of Love and Other Demons (I wish I knew what happened to my copy of this!). Toward the end of the book, I feel the story line fell flat. It seemed rushed as if she was trying to finish it just to finish it.
Also, she went into detail describing the mundane details of their lives and Clare's artwork, but she barely touched on and almost seemed like she passed over some of the other more significant events in their lives.
Kristy read it and she said she didn't see a love story, that it seemed like one of entrapment (as in Henry was entrapped by Clare). I didn't see that, more that they were entrapped by their circumstances than each other. I think part of what also disappointed me was that to me, it seemed that they loved each other because they were supposed to; they were destined to love each other so they did, not because of their personalities or actions or beliefs, etc. For the hype I got from the book, I guess I expected better.
I recommeded for Kristy to read Switching Time, which I read and couldn't put down, then gave it to Alex who couldn't put it down either. When Kristy told me she was in a book club and most of the girls read Chick Lit and she liked biographies of serial killers, I figured she'd enjoy reading about a woman with 17 different personalities. She told me she was already half way through it when I saw her on Tuesday. I love recommending books and having them recommended to me. If I had time, I'd love to join a book club to find out about new books and chat, over drinks of course.
Life is good, and I think it's only getting better.
I'm pretty sure these cupcakes were more of a hit than the game or commercials:
Middle: Peanut Butter and Turtle
Back row: Vanilla with Chocolate icing, Chocolate with Vanilla icing, Vanilla with Vanilla icing, and another Chocolate with Vanilla icing
Molly's Cupcakes is a cupcake bakery/bar in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. They make some other desserts too, but their cupcakes are what they're known for (obviously). Not only are their cupcakes delicious, they have great service too -- something I appreciate more now than ever.
I keeping meaning to update this, so no more excuses. Anyway, I think I'm done buying furniture for my apartment, mostly because I don't think I can fit anything else in here.
I finally got a bookshelf, and not that you can tell in this picture, but I think it's perfect. My apartment instantly looks better.
I finally hung up my picture I got for myself for my birthday. I couldn't figure out where I wanted to put it, so that's part of the reason I waited so long, but it looks good where it does. I tried to take a picture, but it just didn't look right.
All of these boxes are ridiculous, I really need to get rid of them, but I'm such a pack rat that I'm afraid I'll need them as soon as I get rid of them.
I love this. It's not even a bulletin board, it's just corkboard pieces, but it's nice having a place to put random things, especially like Cammi's Christmas card, Daci's save the date card for her wedding, my Germany postcard from Kristin, my funny thank you typical Lydia thank you card, a picture of Maggie and Anna Claire, and other random things. It helps to having little reminders of love; it makes me feel a little less alone.
I finally put together my dresser, but being as indecisive as I am, I can't figure out whether to put it in my closet or keep it in the main part of my apartment. I know it's not a big deal, but I feel like having my apartment set up the way I want it will make me feel more at ease about being here.
I woke up today and the windchill was -11.
I looked up the temperature in New Orleans and it was 67.
Actually, the weather isn't THAT bad as long as you bundle up and wear layers. The wind sucks but hasn't been too bad yet. The worst thing is the ice, which was pretty bad today since it was so cold and wet from the rain yesterday. I hate the ice.
Even the condensation on the INSIDE of my window was frozen:

I sat at one of my favorite coffee shops here and read a couple chapters from my book. It has a fireplace and one of the coolest-looking chandeliers I've seen, more so because of what's around it. Wedged between the spaces of it were paper planes made out of maps and old letters and the ceiling is painted like a sky.

On the way home I stopped by Molly's cupcakes because it has always looked so good. I got a cookies and cream cupcake.

I couldn't wait to wrap my presents because I loved this wrapping paper, plus I love wrapping gifts (and it's my only Christmas decor besides the little wired tree I bought).

Oh, and....
